Reflections - Celebration of the Arts
2012-2013 Theme - "The Magic of a Moment"
In its more than 40-year history, the Reflections program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to explore their artistic talents. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to submit works of art in six arts areas:
- Dance choreography
- Film production
- Musical composition
- Visual arts
Each year the Reflections program provides a specific theme on which is to be reflected in the artworks. Themes are chosen from hundreds submitted by the kids themselves. The theme for 2012-2013 is "The Magic of a Moment" Creations will be judged at the school with the works grouped by age divisions:
- Primary Preschool Grade 2 or up to age 7
- Intermediate Grades 3-5 or ages 8-10
- Middle/Junior Grades 6-8 or ages 11-13
- Senior Grades 9-12 or ages 14+
- Special Artist – Non-Graded
Selected works are chosen to represent the PTA unit at the Berkeley PTA Council where selections to represent Berkeley in the Peralta District and on up to possible National PTA recognition. This is an exciting opportunity for our budding artists to gain recognition for themselves and their PTAs. Works will be judged at the Berkeley Council level in early December after being selected at the school level by mid-November. Dates and places are to be determined. Historically, Berkeley has not been a big factor in the Reflections program. This provides a way for our kids to be recognized for their artistic talents. It takes a lot of work to organize, publicize and coordinate. This is an opportunity for members with a passion for the arts to organize the programs at your schools and get the budding artists involved.
